It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

__2004-11-03 @ 9:31 a.m._______

You must leave now,
take what you need, you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep,
you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

The highway is for gamblers,
better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

All your seasick sailors,
they are rowing home.
All your reindeer armies,
are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind,
something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left,
they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start a new
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Here's part of a response in an email conversation I was having about all of this reelection b.s.-
I know you're right. But it's not really me that I'm concerned about (at least not as much) but moreso I'm concern for the people who really didn't like bush and saw everyone getting so worked up about it and then decided to say "what the heck I'll vote" and then voted in the poll and then got nothing out of it. It leaves a really bad taste in your mouth. and what about groups like MoveOn, Michael Moore, Rock Against Bush, Future Soundtrack for America, ect. Those people spent tons of money, time and effort and they get a nice defeat in return.

And it's not that they won't realize that it wasn't worth it, but it's the overall pessimism that goes along with it...the youth that came out and felt strongly about Bush and now feel defeated. Sure, your first response is "get'em next time tiger!" but for these people it's another chip off the innocence and optimism that they once held. And politics in general wear on people pretty quickly...it takes a lot of people to make a difference and when you finally think that the difference is getting smaller or closer and THEN you feel defeat, it's SO hard to get back up and do it with the same enthusiasm and vigor. I just thought that this would be the time where the kids or people like us finally stuck it to the "man." and got something in return...like a win.
