Went to the Bottom of the Hill last night, which in terms of the quality of music venue, I would give it an 8.5. Nice, small indie rock club with pyschedelic jenny walking around with smokes and sparklers and other bright flashy things to grab your drunken attention. They have PBR and no Boulevard products, like all places in the bay area. I drank and watched music being performed that sounded like Sonic Youth and My Morning Jacket by mostly white, afflicted or at least hipster-esque men in their twenties. It made me feel good that I now have a go-to venue that will surely give me my hipster fix when it's needed. Next week we are off to the Fillmore to see Ryan Adams get wasted and sing songs about how heartbroken he can really be sometimes. I go there hoping to get puked and cried on.
Next week, my birthday will remind me of how time is, in fact, still propelling forward, even in this strange transitional period of my life. It also reminds me that I am getting older and I think wiser, the latter being something I hope is true- something that I can control and am actively in pursuit of. I'm starting to think about going back to school here, depending on motivation. I simply cannot waste my money on going to school if I don't at least mostly have the desire to do so. Desire not in just theory, but in practice. And that, I guess, is that.
Record store update- I really like the people I work with and it makes the shitty odd jobs go by fairly quickly. I worked 30 hours last week which brought me up to 55 hours last week between the two jobs. Now, check this out. I applied to this totally rad record store and last week they finally called me for an interview and "short quiz." The following are a sample of the questions-
