Job search gone awry

__2004-08-10 @ 8:05 p.m._______

So here I am, looking for some kind of permanent work here in the bay area, having very little luck. In the meantime, I've been applying for random temp jobs/part-time jobs just to get the ball rolling until something better comes along. So I figured, what the heck, I'll apply for some record store jobs- I love music and I think I qualify for music geek- in the experience and taste categories. You would be very, very wrong to think you could drop off your resume and chat briefly about how you love the store and think of yourself as a good fit. No, along with the application one must fill out (with resume attached), provide a list of your top 5 albums of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s (so far) along with a list of 10 or so "recent discoveries." Two of the four record stores actually precisely asked for this. It may be a little tedious and pretentious, but after thinking about it, I guess it's just a weeding out process so they don't waste time interviewing people who are clueless and tasteless and could possibly misrepresent the record store and its values as an independent record store...and all of that jazz. In any case, here's the idiotic list of elitist bullshit-
