the midwestern skyline city report

__2004-01-25 @ 1:05 p.m._______

Hello from Chicago. Its cold. The snow covers the ground and if you walk the streets, the slush will most likely seep into your shoes as you walk from bar to bar, apt. to apt., or apt. to bus to train. In this way, its not much different from many places this time of year. I guess its worth noting however, that I have a tendency to end up here every january to play/hear music/see friends/drink alcohol. Adam and I navigated the city last night, making stops at an apartment party and a bar called Quenchers. A polka/jazz band full of 60 somethings played all night. Around 1:00am, I was thinking to myself "isn't it past your bedtime old man?" But they kept going until we left. It was actually kind of inspirational...rockin out at 65 just for the hell of it, having fun. I thought musicians either died by then from drug use, killed themselves, or too fried out to play anymore.

I introduced Tim and Adam to the Darkness. Let me take a brief moment here to declare my love for the Darkness. WTF, I love the Darkness like I love The Daily show! This is not Spinal Tap, its no joke, its just rock'n roll with a tablespoon of humor. Tim loved this shit. Not in that typically "O-Oh, yeah that's good shit. Hmmm, they sound like a really cool band to see live...yeah, good stuff. Awesome, cool," polite Tim comment way, but in that "Dude, this is rediculious! That sounds like Ozzy Osborne right there...oh man, this shit rocks (chuckle, chuckle) oh man (chuckle chuckle- "get your hands off of my woman muthafucka-a-a-er!"- chuckle chuckle) this is good shit- do you want to go to reckless today?" way. Adam enjoyed it as well and is burning a copy for himself. The Darkness launched us into my 3rd conversation of the week about Guns'n Roses and Use Your Illusion I&II. Blaowe!

Today is the Chinese new year. I skipped out on the festivities in Chinatown to hang low in Adam and Tim's apt. Tim had to work today and Adam is with Kathleen. I'm listening to Sun Kil Moon and my feet are cold. I hope JP gets home soon so we can work on some new ideas for songs. That was the original intent of me coming to Chicago in the first place. It seems like nothing is going to happen which disappoints me.

Oh, I talked to Mark yesterday and it looks like there will definitely be a remix of our song "Take the Keys," sometime soon. I'm excited to see what he'll do with it. It better not suck Mark...crash, crash, crash...into a ditch...just playin'.
